Usually when a storm comes I know that the computers are safe because of the UPS they are attatched to, but I guess my luck ran out on the computer I built for my little brother. I'm not surprised that the PSU on was fried in the storm because it has never been replaced since the day it was made; my little brother came to me the morning after the storm and said the computer wasn't powering on, so I went in there and checked things out. I tried to unplug the power cord and plug it back in, but that didn't work and I also changed the voltage on the back, then to the normal setting again and try once more... it still wouldn't power on. So that brought me to the conclusion that the PSU was dead, and I was correct, so I told my Dad and we went to Frys the next day to pick-up a new one.
The instructions from Frys for the Austin store were clear on where the place was, but as my Mum has said about the Austin freeways: whoever designed them must have been smoking crack. We passed the store before we knew it because the shopping center it was in didn't have the sign for Frys, oh well. Once we went about a mile past it, we realized that we were in the completely wrong place, because we were back on 35, but after thinking on it, we figured out where it was and how to get there (do we guys ever stop for instructions?)
Now the computer in my little brother's room, aka. hellboy isnt a very fast computer, nor does it have the proper amount of RAM that it should so while we were in the store, I told my brother that he should pick-up some more; by the time we were finished my Dad decided that we would each get a module of 512MB of RAM so that they could be more usable. Also while we were there, I picked up two CoolerMaster LED fans, one for me and the other for Scott (aka. little brother) so that his computer could run cooler and the server could run cooler, plus some black aluminum case screws because of the many times I open the cases in this house, and a new book titled
PHP5 and MySQL so that I can get myself ready for next years E-commerce competition in
BPA (although I still need a team, hopefully I'll get a team of people that are not complete idiots.)
Now to get some more "off" the subject (yes, again) and to confuse those reading this more: When we go back to the house, the first thing I did was test the memory in the computers and to my surprise, they didn't work because I now know that all of the desktops in this house can only handle a maximum of 256MB of RAM per DIMM slot... wonderful! :-( Needless to say, my computer and my Scott's computer still have the same amount of RAM they had before. Maybe I should do something to his computer and that way we will have to go back to Frys and pick-up a part for it, and then perhaps buy two 256MB modules for my computer (with my money.)
