3 Weeks of Confusion

The folks at ACC were able to find a teacher for the U.S. History 2 class, a funny medieval professor who has taught at the University of Houston and another, who has never taught High School students, and in our case, we have never been in a college course! America: Past and Present is the book for the class, and it is a wonderful read, unlike the history books of High School.

Why has this been confusing? Let me get on my soap box and explain:

  • We haven’t had a teacher for the U.S. History 2 class for 3 weeks since school started.
  • The AP classes are full, so if the ACC class didn’t make it, we would be put in a regular U.S. History class!
  • Bastrop High School was offering the class when neither ACC or BISD had any idea if there was a teacher.
  • I had to drop my 4th period classes on A day and B days and be a teacher-aide because ACC meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the days I have my high school courses changes because of the A-day/B-day schedule.
  • If the class didn’t make it, we either had to get in a regular U.S. History class, take the U.S. History 1 class in the afternoon (which doesn’t count as college credit, only high school credit), take the class with Bastrop High School during the summer, take the course online with ACC in the afternoons, or take it with ACC during the summer and get both high school and college credit.

This has been a very stressfull, aggrevating and confusing first 3 weeks of school. My advice for Bastrop High School is this: Next time an ACC class is going to be offered, make sure there is a teacher available before you advertise the class, because this was ridiculous!
